I am currently a mature student studying Civil Engineering. I find Mathematics quite difficult and would really like some advice on any way that I could help myself improve on this subject. Maybe you could recommend some books, method of study, or ways of remembering different things. I do study very hard but find I forget things very quick. Or is it that I am just not cut out for all this.

Math is the topic of choice for people who forget things quick. A history or English exam is probably going to require loads of memorization. However, in math, you only need to remember the concepts. When you study for math, don't focus on any specific problems. Do as many as you can, and as you move on to the next problem, forget about all the previous problems. As you solve a problem, you absorb a new "trick" to think about how to solve problems and you strengthen your "math muscle."

We are subjective creatures who are forced think objectively when faced with math. For some people, being logical is... difficult.

For those who aren't innately math prone, exposure is the key. Do MORE! And ask around about teachers. If you find the right teacher, you'll realize how much your learning experience can improve.

Good Luck.

don't ever tell your self you are less then - you have failed before you started.

Adults trying to study is tough because adults have so many other things to concern them selves with. Kids study well because they have no other responsibilities then to study. Those that have other responsibilities have to study twice as hard.

You have to put every waking moment into your studies to retain the information but once you decide your studies have top priorty in your life you will retain every thing.

Do you have a wife / kids / a job / a home - you remember who and where that stuff / those people are, right...?

Tell yer loved ones until you have completed your coarse study you will be known as the # one ****** and you suggest they support you all the way or get use to buying their clothes at k-mart.

You can retain any information once you clear enough room in your brain to hold new information.

Have you considered getting a tutor? You may find that a tutor will help you better understand the concepts. Just search for 'online maths tutor' and see if any of the sites can provide what you need.

Math has a wide range of subjects. So I am not able to help you until I know what part of math you need help with. Such as addition, subtraction, formulas, decimals, calculas, etc. You need to know before any one can help you.
