Beach theme bedroom?

My bedroom is horrible. I have dusty dark blue carpet, white walls (except for one grey/white wood grain paneling wall) and this horrible air condintioner box that sticks out about a foot and is about a foot and a half wide. It's brown and has this gaudy cord that hangs down and plugs into the wall. Someone suggested a beach theme given the colors that I already have. It's an apartment so I can't paint. Does anyone have any good beach theme ideas that are inexpensive? I don't want it to be too tacky...i'm going for more of a relaxing getaway type thing.

You could always look for an inexpensive net to hang(like a big fishing net) and put some starfish and seahorses.on it.
My daughter just said to have some shells and bottles of colored sand in the room.

You can get colored sheets and hang those on the wall with push pins. Hang a net with shells and starfish. Maybe try propping a section of fence against one wall. Get a sisal rug to cover up some of the dark blue carpet.

Make your bed the focal point of the room. This will detract from the walls and carpet.

I suggest a cream gauzy canopy around the bed. Cream and blue colored linens/textiles with simple clean lines. Nice throw pillows.

For furniture think while and or natural colored cane/wicker. Distress white is good too.

A silk palm tree in front of the air conditioner when not in use.
