Choose a capital city.

Rome, Paris or London - they are all wonderful. If you are an English speaker then obviously London will be easiest for you but the Italians in Rome are very helpful and you can walk to just about all the major sights - I just LOVE Rome. Paris is beautiful too but the French are not helpful so go prepared to struggle a little. London has such wonderful museums and great PUBS (depending on how old you are!)

Happy birthday and have a great trip. I chose Rome for my 50th birthday and my husband chose Paris for HIS 50th. My daughter wants to go to Australia but as you say it is very expensive to get there!

Jamaica is a beautiful island to visit for your B-day. It is a place where you can enjoy the beauty of the beach, along with lots of party scene. It is not expensive, especially if you get an all inclusive (which includes the airfare, hotel and excursion tour). I guarantee you that you will want to go back after the experience and trill including the accommodations of the native on the island. Try it, it will be a refreshing experience all year round.

Go to some European countries and include the British Isles if you can. There, you can back pack - one back pack per person, (in mild conditions), live on a budget by staying in youth hostels and bed and breakfasts, and get a Eurail pass. I would allow for about two weeks to a month or more to explore. Not only would you learn a lot, but you will have a great time.
