Ask Mel, not us.
If you've never said anything in anger that you don't really mean, then condemn Mel.
If you've never said anything stupid while you were drunk, then condemn Mel.
Until then, dry your eyes.

When his father has been so verbal about his beliefs, I don't see how everyone could just excuse Mel as simply being drunk and not meaning that he believes similarly. He has formed his own Catholic Church. I also noted the wikipedia article on his father contains less about his religious life than what was previously there.
Forming one's own Church with part of the beliefs of his father leads one to believe his children are being taught the same.

His daddy brought him up that way, I guess he's going to do the same for his own children.
I wonder, if, as an atheist, I got plastered and shouted out "Praise the Lord!", would all these people saying that he just said something he didn't really mean while he was drunk still say it about me? Do they KNOW what hypocrite means?
