I really think it depends on your bird's personality. My African Grey is named Charger, because he tries to intimidate people by getting down on the floor, tucking his head low and charging them! It fits him. It is ok if you bring your bird home and he doesn't yet have a name. Give it some time to get to know him and then give him a name that fits him. I think that's better than naming him something and later learning it doesn't fit him AT ALL, but by then he already knows it? Also, I have worked in pet stores, and we hand fed babies for a month or more before they were ready to go...we named them ourselves, after we had had them for a while and gotten to know them, and we always ended up with names that really "fit" them. :-)

well, i like unique names and happy to share with you some: xiara is my lovebird, para is my cockatiel, mirra is my budgie, tiara is another cockatiel. Airling is a nice name for a female parrot but for an african grey, i think fiasta would be cool.

African Greys always strike me as hilariously stuffy little men, for all their intelligence. Therefore, i would name him:

Archibald
Reginald
Poppycock
Chester
Percival

or perhaps:
Maude
Geraldine
Horsefeathers
Mollusk
Chip
Spats

... or if he turns out to be particuarly loud, Tintabulation.

I like the name Chico...you want to keep it simple Grey's are great talkers and have the intelligence of a 5 year old. I hope you have done your homework and know they can live upwards of 75 years.

Don't name it charlie please. 90% of the greys in this country seem to be called Charlie. My 2 are called Polly and Piper. Ther first one I had was called 'Winston' cos he came from Africa and a lot of black men seemed to be called Winston 30 years ago. Also when he was afraid, it sounded like he's been smoking too many fat cigars like Winston Churchill.
