Hi,

my dog was put to sleep last Monday. So I know how your freind is feeling. To be honest theres not a lot you can say that won't upset her. But you can ease her pain a little by reminding her what a good life the dog had and that the dog wouldn't want to see her so upset. Ask her about some of the things the dog did to make her laugh. Try to get her thinking about all the good times she and the dog had. This has helped me no end. Instead of mourning the death, celebrate the life they had together. There are alot of dogs out there who don't have loving homes. Her dog was lucky to have such a loving owner and i'm sure the dog knew that.

Hope it goes well for you

She is fortunate to have a caring friend like you. Let her know how sorry you are for her loss. Maybe try taking your cues from her. If she wants to talk about it, listen and share any memories you have of her dog. If she seems to want to distract herself, let her do that too, but let her know that if she does want to talk about it later, you will listen. Sometimes with any loss, people are numb at first and grief sets in later. It is great that she has someone in her life who realizes how hard it can be to lose a beloved pet. Often people will say things like, "At least you didn't lose a child" or "You'll get over it. Go out and get a new dog". I'm sure these people absolutely mean well, but it can be hard on someone, especially if their pet was really important to them. If she is very upset for some time, she could go see a counselor. In some big cities there are support groups for people who have lost pet. Your local pet store or a non-profit agency may know of one. I lost my cat as a teenager and I cried on and off for a couple of weeks. It helped me to talk about it with friends, but everyone is different. Hope all goes well.

Do what you would do if your friend had lost a family member.

Tell her you are sorry for her loss and offer to help in any way you can. Make sure the friend is not home alone too much, keep her busy if she feels up to it, keep close contact, let her know that you care.

My condolences to your friend.

Tell her you are very sorry for the loss of her companion. Losing a dog is difficult. Offer to be there for her if she needs to talk, cry, or just go out somewhere to take her mind off of her loss for a little while.

This is tough. Good luck...

Remind them of all of the goos times they had ad that the dog is going to a better place. Just be a good friend and do whatever the friend wants to do. Get them out and about.

I could always tell that "Fluffy" felt so loved. You took such good care of her until the very end.
