First criteria is is the marriage valid, recognized by the church
are spouses baptized, are they catholic also included adultery, cruelty and heresy, and it meant that any offspring were not rendered illegitimately I am sure there are more.

I have heard that it is very difficult, and frowned upon, to ask for an Annulment in the Catholic church. I have a friend who has been ostracized for years by good church-going people, for divorcing. God help us!!!
