If it's electric it could be one of several things
- thermostat
- elements are bad or have a bad connection
- blown fuse
- tripped circuit breaker

check that your elements are plugged in securely, check all fuses, and check your circuit breaker. If you do this and still haven't found the cause of the problem, you'll need to have someone come and fix the thermostat.

Is it gas or electric?

If electric, are the elements heating up?

If gas, is the burner coming on?

If the answer is yes and they just don't stay on, then it sounds like a thermostat problem. If they don't come on at all, then it could be several things.... If it is gas and they don't come on, do you smell gas? pilot lit? if it is electric and they don't come on, have you checked the breaker? checked the connection at the base of the element ?

from what you added: sounds like a thermostat problem....
