That totally depends on your language.
English uses 26, German 30, Irish 20 letters, and I'm certain other languages have different numbers again.
In "the alphabet" there are 11.

There is 26 letters in the English alphabet and thats all im gonna write because if you are reading this you understand English so the "alphabet" for you consits of 26 letters.

This is a dumb (not "STUPID") question to ask, so where I live it's "26" letters in the alphabet; and where I lived before it's "28" letters in the alphabet.

there used to be 27 letters in the alphabet with the & but now its not concidered a letter so now theres 26 letters

26. Some people try to add the ampersand" (&) as a 27th letter, but that is more of a ligature than a letter. It is formed by the two letters "e" and "t" being intertwined. Et is the word for and in both Latin and French.
