How big of a potential tragedy would it have to be. Hurricanes, tsunamis, genocides, droughts, plagues nor famine has done it so far. What would it take?

G-d is the cause of all the disasters. it would be sort of weird for him to step in.

He is is control of every thing at all times.

He allows things to happen for a number of reasons.

We have not seen really BIG disasters since the flood.

In the Great Tribulation 1/3 of all people will die, but Jesus will not return until the end of those 7 years.

Why does He wait, because He has warned us of its coming and how to avoid it. It we trust Him and do what He has told us, He will take us up before it happens.

What makes people humble no matter how powerful they think they are?

DEATH.

It scares us. But it is ultimately death which makes humans realize how weak mortal we are.

Natural disasters are a sign, that all our man made structures and inventions can be turned into rubble if Nature wants to. GOD is in the Nature too my friend, as within you.

No disaster will do it. Our most horrific disasters are nothing special in the great scheme of things. You make the mistake of thinking the human race is important. I'm sure God is important, in his own way; humans are not, humans are nothing.

God is already there at any disaster to bring His followers home

He has already stepped in. He sent His son to die on the cross for our sins. please accept His free gift of eternal life and don't look for some disaster to happen in order to find God's love.

Man has made his condition, chosen to separate from God - we cannot know all things, but these things trouble God as well and are not his will.
