My husband and I have decided to have the baby here. I am due in May and we are to return to the US in June. Can anyone speak from a similar experience? I am getting nervous about the the birth and the trip home.

If you have a doc you like and are comfortable giving birth overseas, go for it. Be aware though that you will need a passport for your child before you travel, and those take time, as in more than a month. Once the paperwork is sent in, there's about a 2-4 month average before the passport actually arrives. If your travel dates are flexible, fine, but if you HAVE to be home in June, go before you give birth. Most airlines will let you fly up to 28 weeks or more without doctor permission.
Also, you might want to check the airlines on age limits for infants, seems to me that 4 weeks is a tad young to put on a plane.

I think the airlines won't let you travel without a doctor's permission after 7months of pregnancy. If the child is born in another country, there iwll be a birth certificate from that country made. I had my son in Australia and had to go to the US Embassy in Sydney to get a Consular Certificate of Birth Abroad to make sure he was considered a US Citizen. The red tape can be bypassed if you fly home before you get too far along in your pregnancy.
Look up the US Embassy website for the country you are in for more details. Hope that helps.
