Do you go straight to hell if you don't repent and ask for God's forgiveness? Does it depend on the severity of the sin?

Excellent question, Zeggy! Now, let's see how many of them actually give you a proper answer without alluding to the Bible or calling you names. Lets not forget, after all, that their religion states that any sin is bad and that one must repent, even confess to a priest, before being forgiven. Also don't forget that, due to this belief system, that means that one could go out and kill, steal, cheat, lie, etc all week long and it won't matter, they'll still get to go to Heaven, just as long as they go to church every Sunday without fail. That's really the only prerequisite they have for getting into heaven, really - going to church ever Sunday. It doesn't really matter what you do with your life just as long as you take an hour or so every week to p!ss on the name and standing of your own God.

If you are a Christian, you are one of God's children now. You have accepted him. He's not going to send you straight to hell and deny you heaven if you have accepted Christ as your personal Lord and Savior no matter what.

What does happen, however, if you don't ask for forgiveness is you start to lose fellowship with God. It's kind driving a long way while listening to the radio. The reception is fuzzy, because you are far away from the radio tower. But once you come back and ask for forgiveness, the relationship is close again and you feel close to God. No matter how big your sin is, God will take you back if you ask.

When you are Christian and you sin, you humble yourself before God, and you repent of your sin, ask for forgiveness in confession, and you get absolution. Now if ones Ego is to big there is a problem, one is unable to humble himself, and often will find that there is something wrong with others, or ever with God. Any sin can be forgiven except the sin against the Holy Spirit. Read the NT in the Bible, you will learn much, and be blessed .

Interesting question. As a Christian I would say that all sins are identical in the eyes of God as they all seperate us from him, so no it doesn't depend on the severity of the sin. There is something either in revelation or the gospels or both about Chirstians names beeing written in the book of life, and once it's written in there, there's no going back! So no, I don't think you go to hell if you commit a sin after salvation, but having said that as a Christian you should believe that cutting out sin is good as this is the life God has set out for us.

All sin, no matter how big or little, is still a sin to God. If you sin, repent, ask for forgiveness, and move on. It's all in the past.

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous 1 John 2:1

Jesus, our Advocate is ministering in the heavenly sanctuary for us, pleading His blood and life of perfection on our behalf. Sin, any sin, is much worse than most people believe. It caused Jesus to be separated from the Father, who He had been one with for eternity. It was this separation that caused the death of Jesus, and it was our sins that caused the separation. Sin does not just go away so easily. Its results may last a lifetime, several lifetimes. Jesus not only carries the sin, but He also carries the results of sin. What a burden. When someone truly repents of sin, the sin is placed on Jesus, the Righteous One, who carries that sin for us and deposits it in the heavenly sanctuary by the ministration of His blood. Once the sinner's name comes up in judgment, Christ stands in the sinner's stead, pleading His life of perfection in the place of the sinner's life of failure. The sins of that sinner are then removed from the sanctuary and charged to Satan, who tempted the sinner to sin. It is Satan that will ultimately pay the price for those sins committed by the repentant. Those who do not ask forgiveness of sin will carry their own sins, and pay the penalty which is death. The reason the penalty is death is because God is going to cleanse the universe of sin. Sin must be destroyed. Sin will not arise a second time. Sinners who refuse to repent of the sins that they have committed and who refuse God's gift of mercy have chosen to cling to their sin, chosing that sin over God. When the sin is destroyed, the sinner is destroyed as well, because he continues to cling to the sin. A christian who choses not to repent of sin, or who hides a cherished sin risks being destroyed along with the sin.

All sin are the same in the sight of God. If you die in your sin there is no hope in the grave so you will be lost forever.

In infinite love and mercy God made Christ, who knew no sin, to be sin for us, so that in Him we might be made the righteousness of God. Led by the Holy Spirit we sense our need, acknowledge our sinfulness, repent of our transgressions, and exercise faith in Jesus as Lord and Christ, as Substitute and Example. This faith which receives salvation comes through the divine power of the Word and is the gift of God's grace. Through Christ we are justified, adopted as God's sons and daughters, and delivered from the lordship of sin. Through the Spirit we are born again and sanctified; the Spirit renews our minds, writes God's law of love in our hearts, and we are given the power to live a holy life. Abiding in Him we become partakers of the divine nature and have the assurance of salvation now and in the judgment. Depends on what type of sin
Also, did you commit the sin with intent to commit sin, or did it just happen.
God will forgive most sin, but a "Christian" that repeatedly commits sin will be judged for it!

If you are a child of God who has already obeyed the plan of salvation, when you sin Christ is your advocate or lawyer, He will plead your case to the Father and you must repent of your sins in order to be forgiven. 1John 1:9. If you fail to repent of your sins He will not forgive you and you will be lost.

Any type of sin darkens the soul. Sincerely repenting for life and asking for God's guidance may help. We are judged according to our works.
