You should have applied for Medicaid. If an illegal alien gets free medical support due to birth of their "now" US citizen child, that is good.Government should take care of the US citizens and those that are here legally. But after the birth, the Hospital should call INS for deportation.
On an aside, it is about time to consider Universal healthcare to some degree for all US citizens. People working at Wal-Mart nor Burger King nor small business owners can not afford private health insurance. The Minimum wage is 5.15 dollars per Ghosh sake. We are already paying for the health insurance through local hospital taxes and charities.

When I was younger and our first 2 kids were born, I had no insurance and I did not dare go on welfare. I paid for their delivery into this world by working three jobs. Not just illegals but not everyone should get free health care. Some people are entitled to it on a case by case basis. Too much abuse in the system mostly fraudulent back injuries and stuff like that.

Quite simply, they shouldn't. Unlike the last poster, who seems to live in a dream state, the Medicaid system is being wiped out by millions of illegals using emergency rooms and birthing suites as their first choice for medical care, read "free medical care". The word is out. And it will now only become worse as these parasites see that no legal consequences are forthcoming. Politicians are all too quickly turning their backs on this disgusting problem as it is easier to let some one else clean it up while they pander to the last to scrape up every vote they can for themselves. And as long as we voters don't do what is required, like write actual letters to our representitives and organize rallies the problem and the hollowing out of America will continue.

How about some personal responsibility....private insurance, if you are able to make a baby you should be able to pay for it. I am so shocked at the amount you all pay for medical care. In Canada our health care is free, my sister had a baby and her out of pocket expense was $20 for their little care package which was optional. I suddenly don't mind paying taxes.

IT a free ride our nation gives to get votes in the long run. "Stop the free ride for illegals" If you are a born American or at least someone who will try to become one you should get some form of help. Be Americans is privilege.
Free health care to all Americans and "LEGAL IMMIGRANTS".

agreed. That $9,500 you paid was undoubtedly for a pregnancy that had no complications what so ever. Now imagine all the many complicated births, c sections, birth defects, prematurity and that's just a few things that go wrong, that run the bill up many tens of thousands more

Some people think that because most illegal immigrants cannot afford decent health care, they should get the same quality for free that we have to pay for. It's arguable.

Umm for one i had free medical when i had my daughter...its not just illegal immigrants. And good job on paying it off. oh and by the way I'm American.
