My daughter is married to a man that is almost 11 years older than she is, and the age difference doesn't seem to matter to them. They have been married 6 years and have a beautiful 2 year old daughter.
I think as long as the people in the relationship do not have to make huge sacrifices, any difference is okay. For example if a man dates and older woman and falls in love, but they have no chance to have children. That kind of thing might create resentment later on.

Well Hannah a lot of it depends on the ages of the people involved. Lets say that one is 14 - 16 and partner is 26 - 28 to me that is far to big of an age difference. If one is say 60 and 72 then it makes a lot more sense, but still pretty big gap. You have to consider how much the two people have in common, even as small a thing as music interests, circle of friends etc. Because they have to be able to converse and understand each others position and if age gap is too wide there is no way they can identify with one and other.

I know of 15 to 20 year age gaps and the good thing is that both couples seem to be enjoying themselves. Age gaps seem to work better if the man is the older one i.e. the woman is 25 and the man is 45. The men can still be very active and at the same time they will be preparing to settle down with someone willing to stay put. So in a way, what matters most is your happiness and not the grapevine spreading around your area. Remember, gossip in a way can be due to envy, so if you are thinking of going into one such relationship, go for it!

I think that an age gap like that could work. But at the end of the day providing that the two people want to be together and love each other age doesn't matter

Age is relative. At age 15, a 12 year age gap is ridiculous, but at 25 or 30, its not so much.
My husband is 13 years older than me (I'm 29), and that works pretty well - we've been together 5 years and have a beautiful baby girl. Maybe its because men never grow up!

I have been in a relationship where there was a 11 year age gap. It worked well. So you just never know it depends on both people and what you share.

12+ gap could work depending on the actual ages and the people involved. any age gap is acceptable (as long as legal!) depending on the people in the relationship, i think generally the people with all the issues are the people looking in on the relationship, not actually those having it!

the absolute biggest would be 20 years each way depending on the relevant ages, in my opinion only. a woman of 40 would look vain with a 20 year old and the same for a man of 40 with a 20 year old. myself i'm in a relationship with a woman 10 years my senior, i'm 35 and we've been together 2 years and engaged. we're no spring chickens but we get on like kids and have a great time together.
