my tooth is really driving me crazy. I had it looked at by a dentist and he saw no decay, but sent me for xrays. I have thickening of the tissue surrounding my molar. They said it could be from clenching or grinding, but if I do either it has to be during my sleep as I dont know about it, but my question is...why would biting, chewing on it or eating sugar or cold cause it pain? Does anyone know?

I understand that grinding can cause chipping...but I dont have any of that. just thick tissue and pain that increases with sugar or cold. I've read plenty as I am a hygiene student.
