OK, there are too "types" of american bulldog.. one called a standard, one bully... the diferences in look are great, but yes, the "standard" can look rather Pitt like, and there are people trying too pawn off mixes as an american bulldog because of the BSL on Pitts. ALSO, check this site http://www.manstoppers.com/bullyvard/ubbthreads.php ... on the logo, the dogs on the left are Bully AB's, and the dogs on the right are very bully Pitts, but they are obviously different.

The story goes that after the WW the American Bulldog as a breed was nearly extinct, as were many other breeds... two guys started bringing them back.. Mr Johnson went one way in his breeding choices, breeding a bigger, bullier looking dog, and Mr Scott went the other direction, breeding for performance... giving us a smaller, leaner, more agile dog. (with a Pitt look too it)

No matter what breed, there will always be someone trying too pass of poor quality dogs, and even mix breeds as a "show" prospect. But, there are many, many good people in this breed, breeding for the betterment. They are great dogs, Love mine to death.

Here is Mr. Johnsons site, it will lead you too interviews he has done over the years, as well as let you see what the breed looks like. Very educational, very good way to start. http://www.johndjohnsonkennels.com/

FYI.. Get Em Gang... LOL! Again, there was absolutely no education behind your answer. The AB is a breed, and fastly becoming a very popular breed. It has also been asked to join the AKC.. and Bulldoggers are resistant, as we tend to like our dogs the way they are, and appreciate them for their variation, and work ability, and do not want to see them become just another over bred pretty face.

Actually, these are two different breeds. IMO, the American Bulldog (recognized by the UKC, but not AKC) has more the appearance of an English Bulldog, but with a little less wrinkled face, slightly longer snout and taller. American Bulldogs have that round head more similar to the English Bulldog.

I once voiced my opinion at the shelter about how sad it was there were so many PitBulls waiting on death row. I think I said I'm sorry that they have been bred to be so mean and aggressive.

One lady at the shelter handed me a fact sheet on the American Staffordshire Terrier, effectively telling me I had no clue about the breed.

Recently on these boards, I've been told the AST is not the same as a PitBull, but I know these two are much closer to being the same as is your bulldog and a pitbull.

Definately not the same breed.
