Excellent question. As you are working for a government, things start to simplify versus get complicated. You can ask for what is called a "due diligence" guide for these particular dangerous tools. The govt. of any province is required by law to provide this and if not, can be sued in a court of law.

Due diligence is basically a protection that is more to the protection of the employer as it protects them/it from being sued by the employee. An example of very basic due diligence is something like this: "Do not stand on top step of ladder - it is not considered safe". Or another favourite of mine, "Do not use a 40-foot climbing rope as the drop is only 25 feet."

Hope this helps.

"Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that police do not have any specific duty to protect you or your property. The police only have a general responsibility to investigate and prosecute a crime after it has been committed." Thank God this is true. The police get sued enough already. Could you imagine what the lawsuits would be like if some legislative body wrote a law stating that the police must protect you? lol Incidentally, the motto of our local police department is "To Protect and To Serve" and they do a pretty darn good job. So, the correct answer is all three.

Always wear safety glasses when working with drills, hammers, etc. It's not a bad idea to wear gloves, especially while handling sharp edged metal.
