i had a bout of seronegative RA a year ago and my small joints (palms and feet) and there was excrutiating pain all the time.
The inflammation was only in these small joints whereas ankles and knees felt stiff. The feet also hurt and i felt as if they were freezing cold while they were warm to touch. The pain seemed to radiate from the core and the bones seemed cold. My feet were sensitive even to the slightest movement of air around them.
It faded away as mysteriously as it came but i was bed ridden for about 3-4 months. Try alternative therapy as there are no meds for it. I was doing Yoga and accupressure and i dunno what worked.
And please don't be scared...RA weakened my mental strength more than any other hardship, but that will only make things worse. Keep the faith.

My husband was diagnosed with RA in 1994. He was able to work until 2003. He has been very successful in his treatment. He has been on methotrexate for about 7 years and it works very well for him. He sees his rheumatologist every 90 days. RA is supposed to be a crippling disease, not a terminal one, but it can effect the internal organs in its advanced stages. If you are not happy with her treatment, seek another doctor.

You will need to take an anti inflammatory. Yes, in most cases, the swelling and disfiguration of fingers and so forth is obvious. Exercising and certain therapies can help ease the pain.
