I bought a 6 year old Shih Tzu female from an irresponsible breeder. When I picked her up, she was a little under weight and mopey. The lady didn't really want to sell her then because she believed that she was likely pregnant since she was swollen and rejecting males.

I have never done this before but I am learning everything I can as fast as I can. She has had her shots, been dewormed (by me courtesy of the vet) and is doing well. But... the one thing I can't seem to find is how long from conception before they start rejecting all males?

I've had her for almost 7 weeks and I'm trying to pinpoint a more accurate date. I'm off to buy a rectal thermometer today. The veins in her abdomen are getting very noticeable and I can distinctly feel approximately 4 different pups "kicking" and rolling. I also have my vets after hour number and a whelping area, supplies, and help arranged.

Please do not stick a thermometer in your poor pregnant puppy. She is obviously close and she can do it on her own. Please make a comfy box with a cushion or blanket and pamper her. When the time comes, she will let you know or she will do it on her own in the night when you are sleeping.

Peace!

A female will carry a litter of pups anywhere from 56 to 63 days from time of conception. If a big litter she can have within 56 days,as I've had seceral females deliver within this time.On the day she is to deliver, you may notice that she won't eat and trys to hide. You need to prepare her a big pasteboard box and line it with newspaper so she can become acustom to the whelping box.As her contractions begin you will probably see her scratching and tearing up the paper.Witin 45 minutes to 1 hour after her contractions begin, she should expell a pup.If not and she is bearing down hard, call your vet,as a pup could be too large for her to have and will require a C-Section.Good luck with your new litter.

If you've had her for 7 weeks and can feel pups moving, you'd best be introducing her to her whelping box pretty soon (dogs are pregnant for 9 weeks). It needs to be in a warm, quiet room, lots of newspapers in it. Show it to her so she knows where it is. She'll start nesting as she gets close to whelping, will stop eating and act very restless. That's when you need to stay close in case she wants or needs your help. Some moms want you to help (drying pups with a towel, make sure noses and mouths are clear, etc.) I always liked to cut and tie cords myself because the moms are often a bit too rough. The time to give her vitamins is as soon as her litter is born to give her a little extra help - especially if she wasn't in good condition when you got her.

Sounds like you have everything well in hand - good luck with your puppies.

How good of you to take her on not many would, to be certain (unless you are an expert on feeling for pups) you can request thats shes scanned...

If you cant pinpoint the day of mating which its obvious you can't i would err either side of 60days so start watching her from now.
I would not leave her side incase she gets into trouble and needs immediate vets care...

I'm very dismayed given the state on your new addition the vet didnt ask for you to get her spayed immediately and in that instant halt any impending puppies. It sounds like the last thing she needed was a litter to contend with.

Good luck with her and i'm glad you rescued her...

Taking antibodies from contaminated or immunized persons and injecting them into ill human beings is spoke of as passive immunization. as an occasion plasma from horses vaccinated against tetanus may be injected into human beings that have tetanus. besides the undeniable fact that, i think of you're speaking of saliva, which does have some antibodies, yet no longer an excellent purchase. Saliva additionally has lysozyme and cationic peptides which could kill particular viruses and micro organism.
