I know exactly how you feel, Maria Isabel. Ten years ago I babysat for the family two blocks down from me - two small boys both of whim loved sports AND reading. I love those guys - they're great kids. Well, I'd watched the boys six or seven times before their mother found out I'm an atheist and then she stopped calling me to watch the boys. Well, I was confused and quite hurt. I'd started thinking of those boys as if they were my baby brothers and one of the had even said he was glad to have someone like me to be his big sister. Well, I went over there to ask if I'd done or said something to offend them. Their mother dodged the issue at first, but my friends don't call me blunt for nothing and it wasn't long before I asked her point-blank why she didn't want me watching the boys anymore. She'd said, "Well, you're nice and you've tutored Jake from a D+ to a B+, but this is a God-fearing household and I don't want my children's minds corrupted with Satan's poison." I was stunned. I just stood there staring at her at a loss for words. And then I just left. Well, the next day I got a call from her apologizing. It turns out that Jake and his little brother Wyatt had been eavesdropping and had heard my conversation with their mother and had cornered her after I left, telling her that they missed me and that I'd never talked about religion with them, but about school, sports, bugs, and other things boys were interested in. And Wyatt had also "scolded" her, telling her that she was being mean to me and that she'd hurt my feelings and that was a bad thing to do to someone as "nice as" me. That family moved a week later.

Yes. I have allowed a Pagan Witch watch my son. But my answer probably doesn't count, because I am a Pagan. *wink* But, when it comes to babysitting other people's kids, I suggest you be upfront with that information. You are more likely to gain respect if for no other reason than you were honest about it. When I used to babysit, I always told the parents... simply because when you enter my house it's hard to miss the 2 large bookcases full of "Pagan" books. Books on archeology and history of Pagan religions mostly. But I think what would tip them off the most is the pic of the Wheel of the Year I have on my fireplace mantle. lol

Religion shouldn't matter when it comes to who watches your children. The only thing that would matter is the person's character. To answer your question, if I have kids in the future, of course I would. I'd only want to get to know the person a bit, but I don't care what religion they are.
Besides, I'm a Pagan witch-to-be myself.

I would I do not judge people based upon their beliefs. I accept people for who they are and they are good people then I have no problem with them. I studied the Wiccan religion for awhile and it is a very peaceful loving belief they do not believe in harming anyone or anything and I would want my child in a loving atmosphere. I have been raised strict Roman Catholic all my life and trust me there are tons of people I have gone to church with that I would not leave my fish with. No matter what the religion there are going to be both good and bad. So it would depend on the individual and not their belief that would make my mind up.

sure, i've babysat before. religious beliefs have nothing to do with the quality/skills of a babysitter.
edit-i'm sorry that person gave the job to someone else, but how did they find out? not everyone is educated and some people are downright rude. it's in your best interest just to chalk it up to ignorance. if i ever have a kid i'll let you babysit =)

Actually, I would. These folks are not evil; they just have different beliefs, and I think children need to be exposed to all sorts of people (as if a Wicca would discuss religion with a child.). If they aren't, they will be just as intolerant, judgmental, and prejudiced as YOU are! That's why there is so much war, our prisons are full, and racism. Get over it!

The only person who would not be allowed to babysit my kids (mine are a little old for this now anyway) is a convicted child molester. Anyone else....no problem.
Edit: Wow, somebody actually did that to you? That's awful, I'm so sorry you had to be exposed to such blatant bigotry. If it's any consolation, people like that are most likely hateful towards everyone. They really don't know any better and should be forgiven. Don't let it bother you, please. Life's too short for allowing the ignorance of some to spoil your day.

I would let someone babysit if they were a good, kind person, regardless of their religious background. It shouldn't matter what they are, as long as you know your kids will be safe with them.

That depends, I have met some really nice Witches and some really nasty ones. Ones that respect my right to raise my child in the way I see fit and those that don't. If a nice one would promise not to try to convert my child before her eighteenth birthday yes I would, otherwise nope.
