I am leaving for new zealand on December 3, I applied for a passport and already have my tickets.... My question is when I got married I never changed my name on my social security card so it is still under my maiden name, Is that going to make a difference? My driver license states my married name. What should I do if it will.... I have a flight that is non refundable....My mom pointed it out and i can't find any information to see if that will make a difference. So if someone could help or at lease give me some answers I would really appreciate it. If it will make a differnce could some one tell me what I should do?

I applied under my married name that is on drivers license. But they asked for my social security number and I did not know if that would cause a problem. They also asked for my maiden name.

I'm with the answerers telling you to carry your marriage certificate with you. All they need to see is how your name legally changed. In the meantime, apply to change your name on your SS card, as well. Maybe even carry a copy of that application, as well. I recently applied for my passport and, even though I am now divorced and had my divorce documents, they needed to see my marriage certificate to show why my name changed and because I kept my married surname after the divorce. I no longer had my marriage certificate, so had to order a new one from Vital Statistics.

According to my knowledge there is a 65% possibility of problem.
You must change your name on Social Security card ASAP. What if you come back from New Zealand and Homeland Security won't allow you to enter USA? or what if they think you are having fake I.D?

I understand your ticket is Nonrefundable but think about other problems. You said your Driver License sates your married name which has preference Social Security card or Driving License. What about name on Passport? that is also important. To avoid any confusion you must have all your IDs by the same name. It will also help Airport security and people from other department to do their job faster.

According to recent news now US citizen will also have to provide passport at Airport, in some case IDs too.

I am sorry I don't mean to put you in trouble I tried my best to share my knowledge.

ignore any six month rule. some international places do require a passport of a targeted visitor to stay valid previous a proposed stay, in some circumstances by six months, yet there is not any typical rule. after all, that purely applies to foreigners; you're neither a foreigner contained in the U. S. nor in Australia. you're purely meant to have a valid Australian passport even as entering or exiting Australia and a valid US passport even as entering or exiting the U. S.. you should use any of you passports till the day it expires. it really is attainable to renew your Australian passport contained in the U. S., yet in various of circumstances it will be faster and extra uncomplicated to attempt this in the time of Australia. in case you intend to commute in a month you ought to have various of time to renew your passport previously you bypass. As an human being Australian passport is valid for ten years and also you do not comprehend how lengthy you'd be contained in the U. S. it form of feels functional to renew it now.

If your passport and your ticket are on different names you MUST carry your marriage certificate with you.

Most, perhaps all, airlines will honor a ticket if you can show WHY your passport is in a different name (through a marriage certificate, recent divorce decree, etc.) But the intellectual capacity of the inspectors charged with looking at your documents may not be great, and you may have trouble reasoning with these persons.

You might want to send a registered letter to the airline to put them on notice. It used to be TELEGRAMS that got attention. Now it's registered letters because almost the only people who send them are lawyers who are about to SUE.

See below:

"Will I have a problem if the name on my airline ticket does not exactly match the name in my passport?

"If your middle name is not included on your ticket, or if your name is shortened or abbreviated on your ticket, you should not have any problems boarding the plane or entering the U.S. This is a common occurrence.

"If you have recently changed your name, for example after marriage, and the name in your passport and the name on your ticket are different, we cannot guarantee that you will be allowed to board the plane or enter the United States. That is a decision for your airline and for the immigration officer at the port of entry in the U.S.

"We encourage all passengers to travel with all of their documents matching their current legal name. If this is not possible, we encourage passengers to travel with clear documentation about any changes, such as a marriage certificate or change of name certification. The Embassy is unable to guarantee that you will be admitted."

Once the passport is issued that is all you have to be concerned about. Be sure all tickets are in the name on the passport. The passport office knows that people get married.

What is the status of your passport application?

Perhaps you should have a copy of your marriage certificate on hand to confirm that you are the same person, if required.

Good luck!

It depends, are you a USC? If you are you have nothing to worry about. You have a good explanation and the immigration service has a myriad of ways to confirm information.
