Unfortunately a lot of Christians themselves do not understand the differance between God and Religion. Religion is the law that MAN makes around his belief in God. Some people get very fanatical about Religion, which then turns off not only the unbeliever, but also fellow Christians.
I'll ask you another question to try and illustrate.
What do you think Jesus would say about the differances between the Catholic church, the Anglican church and the Jehova Witness'?
In my humble opinion, He would repeat what He said in Mathew 7:21

Because people are arrogant. They claim they follow only their own beliefs, yet they believe scientific theories even the ones which have not yet been proved, so they can not really say that there is evidence for science but not for religion. Look around you, the world is your evidence. How can science create all this? Strange things happen to people everyday and it is no coincidence, God does exist.

because the people who represent these religions are far from sincere. people display their beliefs openlt to the world, but is what they are showing suitable? hate, fear, mistrust, murder, molestation, ...the list goes on. if you want to be taken seriously as a real and legitimate beliefr system you not only have to talk the talk (which you all seem to love) but also walk the walk.
christians love the talk but are never seen doing the walk. do as I say , not as I do. that seems to be their way. just look around, its not only 'sinners' being immoral. chriatians seem to judge more than anyone else, which contradicts their talk on god.
it is the contradiction and irregularity that makes people not want to be a part of it.
I dismiss it as a bad thing, because it seems to make people worse off, fearful, judge mental, and suffer delusions of purity and elitism. when the face value is obviously a gross blurring of holy thought.
to understand the way we are, look first at your own kind, for beliefs are only as strong as their weakest links, and the people are weak.

The purpose of education is the pursuit of truth. Faith is a belief mechanism, there are many examples, both currently and since the dawn of time. All of them are/were the "truth", as no doubt you believe yours is. PS (believe) is the correct spelling and "toady`s society" are characters from `Wind in the Willows`.

To me all organised religion is evil. Can you think of any war that didn't have anything to do with religion and faith?
I don't so much mind people who simply believe in God and keep quiet about it. Fine, everyone is entitled to believe whatever they want. But if people go on missions, parading their faith, trying to convert people, I get severely annoyed. Religion has lead to so much hatred and intolerance in this world, I really don't see why anyone should support it.

Didn't he live in big hall and hang out with a rat, a mole and a badger? Crashed his car? Went a courting?
He was kinda posh - maybe the rich just don't feel the need for the affirmation of religion.

Be not afraid. Study , learn, increase on the knowledge as much and as best you can. In doing this you may contribute to the growth and benefit of humankind. Be careful of the falsehoods peddled by superstitious boggy men and woman.

Why do you consider it 'fear'? I never found belief to be supportive of good morality or good behavior. I have found that logic provides a far better support of both.
Besides, you should try leaving the USA sometime. That feeling you have towards non-religion is what the majority of the western world feels towards religion, because religion is the minority there.
