I'm currently having a house built and it is pretty much done all the construction and they told us we can move in December 1st. yesturday we finally finialized the mortgage, and today we phoned the development company that is building our place and he told us we have to wait now for the city to make a land title so i'm wondering how long does that typically take to do? are we looking at a week or a few weeks or a few days? I live in Alberta, Canada. thanks in advance.

Usually it should only take a week but because of the hot housing market in Alberta the Land Titles offices are behind. In the summer when it was at it's peak it was taking up to 4 weeks. They have hired more staff and are in the middle of training so it should ease up soon. At this time of year you can expect to wait approx. 2 weeks or so. Your lawyer is the one who usually will deal with the Land Titles office in Alberta.

I live in BC, but it seems weird that the land title is done by the City. Usually the lawyers do that through the Land Titles Offiice. 2 weeks max. Call the land titles office yourself and ask them, then you have some ammunition when you talk to the developers.
