LCD has a slight resolution advantage in a well-lit room.
They are generally thinner, also 10-15% lighter than plasma, and use approximately 50% less power.
They don't have a problem with "burn-in" as plasmas do, however LCDs do tend to have what is called "ghosting", where a trail is seen behind moving objects.
Plasmas have 160-170 degree viewing radius, whereas LCD loses a bit of contrast and brightness as you move from center.
As for lifespan, TV lifespan is measured as a "half-life", or the amount of time it takes for the unit to lose half its original brightness. Plasmas only have around 25,000 hours of life. In contrast, LCDs have around 55,000. With an average of 8 hours a day of viewing, that's 8 and a half years for a plasma versus 20 years for LCD.
Additionally, LCDs have a replaceable bulb. Depending on the brand and model of your LCD (the better the brand, the better the bulb), a replacement bulb can cost between $250 and $500. Plasmas, on the other hand, are totally done when they've reached their half-life as there is nothing you can do to repair the gas.

As far as I'm concerned, light bulbs are for projectors. I have a plasma that I bought three years ago still working fine. Plasma is great on bigger screens - LCD best on smaller screens and best if you want to use as computer monitor as well. This was the verdit when I bought mine, but with new technologies i'm not sure. Go to what hi-fi website or magazine for comparisons and reviews.

I depends! What does it depend on? Your budget and your screen size. Plasma will cost more and give you a better picture but it has a shorter life span but you have to check the native resolution of the unit and the contrast ratio. The price is dropping on all sets and if you need to conserve your money wait till the spring and look at lcd's as they are improving quickly
