You have to conceive it in your heart and mind before you can receive it?

If I am doing this then aren't I asking for what I want rather than what I need? Am I not visualizing something into my life that may not be right for me?

This was something I read in Joel Olsteen's book. Not the Bible. Reminder: not everything in the Religion & Spirtuality section has to concern the Bible : )

No - you don not have to visualize it all - if you are talking about accepting Christ is not possible to do so - it is wonderful beyond what we could have conceived otherwise.
Accepting Christ is the greatest thing yo can do in life because it fulfills your purpose, and gives you abundant and eternal life.
The risk is what God loves - he knows it may not be easy - but does he reward your faith!!

Are you speaking of the Gospel of Jesus Christ? I am not sure what you are speaking of. But if it is that- then it is God who convicts you and gives you understanding of what Jesus did. As it says in Romans 3:10 that nobody is good, not one and no one seeks after God-

Therefore none of us on our own can come to God- but it is God moving in our hearts when we hear the gospel- and it is Him drawing us in- helping us understand it- then we receive it will full JOY! Those that do not receive it, do not understand and their eyes are closed and the veil has not been lifted...but John 6:44 says "No one can come to Me, unless my Father draws him and I will raise him up on the last day" --Jesus said this.

There's nothing Biblical about the concept you're talking about. If you're speaking of Salvation, it's a very simple concept, that includes FAITH and TRUST in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and repentance of your sins.
