My puppy (nine weeks) needs three booster shots, one month apart, which I am definintly keeping on, but I wonder how often after that is it really needed?
Some people tell me it will get too toxic if a dog or a cat recieves their shots every single year, so they get it done every 2 years instead.
My dog is, of course, going to be an outdoor dog, so I'm thinking that it would be best that he have his yearly shot.
What do you think?

The American Animal Hospital Association has vaccine recommendations on the web. For adults, the recommendation is every 3 yrs.

Studies have been done that show that vaccinations are good for many more yrs than that. All 27 US Vet Schools go with the 3 yr protocol for now. That WILL be changing in yrs to come. Here's a site from Wisconsin University

I'm not sure about your cat. But for your dog, depending on its size since its going to be an outdoor dog will need them at least once a year. There are all different types of shots, last time i went with my dog he had 4. It also depends on the environment in which the dog is outside.

Annual vaccinations are a huge controversy right now. I used to get my dogs their boosters annually, until one of my dogs got auto immune from his shots. It kills 1 dog in 4, my vet said, and the recovery is hell for those it doesn't kill. Since then, I've done a lot of research, talked to different vets, and my dogs will never again get annual boosters. Mine get them every 2nd year, but once they reach 11 years old, they won't be getting any.

our adult dogs get their shots once per year and they are inside dogs
PS dont leave your dogs outside its not good for them
