Ethiopia has made preparations for a conflict with the Islamists who control much of southern Somalia, Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has told MPs. -
I find this report by BBC is senseless and based on narrow minded vision - is there anything in Islam itself as "Islamist" or is this how Western Media paint Islam bad colours?
I need your opinion - I am an African but also I see how my fellow Africans prepare to fight each other instead of fighting poverty (hunger) and ignorance in Africa. Somalia already is a weak country, there's no stability military or politically, what is Ethiopia trying to prove...fighting Muslims so they can get small change ($+£)from US and their allies? We are tired of WAR, We are tired of these African leaders who are selling us day and night for a small price. Let be me no room for "killings" - Lets not get tired of negotiation.PEACE IN AFRICA.

As an African Muslim, I find this is senseless calling for Holy War from Somalia to Ethiopia,,this is another abusive step of religion,We Muslims must stand and conderm this day light,if is the matter of religion then Peace should be priority - Religion teaches priorities and tolerance, and for sure we have greater priorities on the table-we should not differentiate between Somalia and Ethiopia, they are both African brothers, they both have unique status in Islam - Our duty is to unite them.Curse the Satan.

People need to stop killing in the name of their god. Not only is war ravaging Africa but HIV/AIDS as well. The only way to stop it is to pray that the hearts of men change.

Dear Friend:

I would look to the success of Gandhi who managed to unite Muslims and Hindus against a common enemy who were exploiting their differences to dominate over both. Yes, it takes massive education, but it starts by working locally and expanding from there. Please look for and support alliances on all sides who value cooperation on common solutions instead of war.

A friend of mine said it would require setting up a system of teaching hospitals in every country across Africa to provide education and health care services to meet the growing need.
Here are some organizations I think could fulfill her vision:

* The Grameen Bank just won a Nobel Prize for solutions to uplifting communities in poverty and creating financial independence to break the cycle of oppression.

* Architecture for Humanity organizes resources to design and build community structure on smaller budgets to serve more people.

* Doctors without Borders seeks to provide medical aid and assistance aside from politics.

If you can form alliances with contacts from these groups or similar ones, I encourage you to get on the radio stations, Internet, and TV with positive messages and get more people involved. Ask churches for prayer support, ask students and schools worldwide to adopt schools or communities in need.

War cannot take place in an environment where people feel a connection with each other so there is hope to solve their problems together. Conflicts break out into violence when people feel so divided and oppressed they feel they have no other way to break free from the deadlock. So keep building bridges and bringing in positive support and ideas.

It may seem an impossible task at first, but once you get the momentum going, you would be surprised how the efforts multiply and attract more support from people eager to invest in better solutions. Just get something started, no matter how small, and let your love guide you from there.

Take care, and you have my support to find and develop a positive focus that will attract more help to make it grow.

Yours truly,
Emily Nghiem

War stinks! But as Sir Winston Churchhill said "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last."
If it comes down to it what would you prefer being forced to convert to Islam, Losing your head, or going to war to protect the rights and life of your closest loved ones. Which would you prefer? If you have a library nearby go and study Islamic history, then decide. If the books you pick are more than twenty years old you will get better info.

I will be praying for you, and all of Africa.

It is such a sad situation. I agree with you - with limited resources, why spend it on fighting? Unfortunately, when a country is weakest is when tyrants can take advantage of it easily.

My thoughts are with you for peace in Africa.
