Enroll him in ballet classes. He may have a natural ability that can be developed if given the chance.

Both me and my little sister walked on tiptoes when younger, not because it hurt to walk flat footed, but because it was fun! lol We both thought that it was coolage to be taller than we really were. And there is a 5 yr difference between us. Don't worry too much about it. We outgrew it, I'm sure your son will. But if it goes on too long, or if you're just concerned as a general parent thing, go to a doctor & ask him. It is possible, tho from experience not likely, that it could actually be a problem. Just ask and see what your doctor says. The 2 points that you should worry at is this: 1) if it actually hurts your son to walk on flat feet, which I think you should be able tell if you are able to watch him rather often. 2) if he doesn't outgrow!.....and can't give a reason as to why he does... course that could be more psychological than physical. Which depending on your beliefs could be better OR worse. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck. Child-raising is never easy. ~fayquest

My husband's youngest brother developed this habit and was still doing it when he was at school. (7 or 8)
As per the advice they were given, have it checked out as, 1) It may be a sign of a shortened Achilles tendon or 2) If the habit continues long term it may lead to shortening of the Achilles tendon, because when walking on tiptoes the tendon is not stretching as it is supposed to and will contract.
Contraction of tendons is one reason comatose patients are given passive exercise and have their feet propped upright - so that if/when they come out of the coma they will be able to stand and move properly to enable rehabilitation.

I am11 now and just recently stopped walking on my tiptoes and i'm sure yo'll notice his toes are not straight. He'll walk like that for a while so don't worry it's veryy normal just let im walk like that. By the time he's 8, if he contiues talk to him and encourage him to walk normally. eer pressure will be against him or talk to a doctor. Good luck

usually, toddlers go through a phase where they walk on their tiptoes to experiment of what it feels like. but if toddlers continue to walk on their tiptoes constantly gives off a warning sign that thy have problems with their lower legs muscles, and you should most definitely contact you child's pediatrician if:
1. he has been walking tiptoe for a long while, 6 months +
2. he never walks on regular feet.
good luck!

Relax. It is sooooooooooo normal. Nothing to worry about and kind of cute to watch. It does have to do with the swings and the walkers that they were in but, it is not because they spent too much time in there. The main thing is to make sure that your toddler has realy good hard shoes to learn to walk in. Take him to a shoe store, have him fitted. The Nikes are cute and all but, they really need more support when learning to walk.

No, it's not a problem. Kids seem to get into a little routine with things for a while but they grow out of it. My nephew walked on his toes for a while. He then moved on to licking around his bottom lip until he made it sore and then there was the spitting phase. Not naughty spitting at people but spitting in the gutter like he had something in his mouth. All of which he grew out of. He's now 18 and has far more questionable slobby habbits! LOL

Possibly a phase but I know a 9 year old who does the same and it turns out the tendons in her heels are too short(I am sure it can be described more technically than that!), so maybe something to look into if problem persists over any great length of time.

My aunt and my mother in law both had that problem as small children. It was because their ankle tendons were too short. My aunt had to have a surgery to correct hers. I'm not sure about my mother in law. My aunt is fine now, and you can't even tell there was ever a problem. My mother in law still has minor issues with hers.

well to me it is a problem. First of all can he walk flat foot is it pain full for him. If you think there is a problem then there is.
When i was young i walked on you toes until grade 2 had to get my tendon lenghten. was tease so much. When i had my first child she discovered the art of walking on her toes too. was worried , doctor said not to. she stop when she was older. she didn't. All that time i was reminding her not to walking on her toes.
when she was four went to a different doctor. she had trouble putting her heel on the ground. So she also had to have surgery on her tendon. but now the cast both legs and botoc both calfs.
So just keep on reminding him to not and point out to him that his dady does walk on his toes that might help
