According to the reading I have done regarding hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), the brain, when it senses that blood sugar is low, will do sometimes strange things to get the blood sugar (glucose) out of storage and into the blood stream. Adrenaline is one sure way to do this. If cutting and the pain that results causes you to get an adrenaline rush, then low blood sugar is probably the cause.
Suggestion? Put off cutting for 30 minutes the next time you feel the need. Go to the kitchen and get some protein, meat, a can of tuna (salmon is better) or whatever, and eat it. Also have some carbohydrate, like a handful of chips, an apple, or some carrots/celery, and also some nuts or peanut butter. Eat at least 2 ounces of the protein. Then drink a glass of water and do something else for 30 minutes. You may find your need to cut has lessened a bit.
Chronic low blood sugar can also cause self-esteem problems, anger management problems and a whole bunch of other physical and mental nasties. You may want to check out the symptoms link on www.hufa.org, and see how you check out.
Feel free to e-mail me through my profile, and tell me how you are doing. I care.

You are 14 and you are trying to cut yourself into oblivion, I would try to stop cutting and try to work out your problem, life is supposed to be good around 14, I am 65 and I wish I was your age, but I don't resort to cutting, I have high blood pressure and Diabetes, so I have the edge on you for doing this cutting, I feel the World really sucks so I can relate to Your problem, there is a better way,try watchig a video as a distraction or go out with your friends, even pick up the Bible and read it if necessary, do you think God would be happy if he knew you were cutting yourself just to get high, I don't think so, I think you should ask someone for help or see a priest at the church , they will console you, or a councillor, If you think living with Diabetes is a picnic ,just get it Darling and you will start cutting for sure because it really hurts, remember no matter how bad your situation, there is someone worse off somewhere else,so try to sort Yourself out, but if you kill Yourself, you will never come back to discover your true potential in life, God bless you Dear. why don't you talk to someone first - plus think about how selfish you'd be if you commit suicide because you'll put your loved ones through hell.
everyone has problems, the whole point of life is to find out how to get through them.
there has to be at least something thats good in your life such as you probably have a place to live or food to access or education or whatever...
just remember you'll get through this, talk to someone that can help.

If you want brute honesty then here it is: Get over yourself.
Sorry to be blunt but it's true. 99 times out of 100 people have absolutely no reason to be depressed other then for selfish and greedy reasons. Think of your family and your friends that care about you and you're honestly hurting them far more then you're hurting yourself. If you have any love for the people that care about you, stop and think.
If you want to get a hold on how bad your life really is, take a reality check and look around you. There are millions of people starving and living out of dumpsters while you are pleasantly sitting at your computer They're trying to survive living in the streets and freezing to death. Take a walk around downtown New York, or a city in poverty. Go to a school for disadvantaged kids and see how they can't even walk without help, yet they make the most of their lives.
I have friends whose little brothers try to kill them in their sleep, but their parents blame it on them. I have a friend whose father beat her and her mother never cared. I have a friend who has cancer and is NEVER going to be able to live out her dream as being an author. Yet they ALL go about their business and make the most of life. It makes me sick to hear people like you whining for no reason at all and claiming that "You don't know me! You don't know what I've been through!" and yet I think that's straight bullsheet.
If you have an ACTUAL problem, seek help, it's that simple. Don't hurt the ones you love because you're too week to handle life while thousands of others are trying their hardest to survive in conditions a thousand times worse then yours.
That's reality, hon.

Hey there,
I am really sorry to hear that you feel so hopeless and sad. Even though I do not know you, I wish I could give you a big hug right now and tell you that you are not alone and that your life is worth living. I don't know what your circumstance are, but they must be pretty rough for you to think that there is no way out. Trust me, honey, you do not want to go that route and end your life. No matter what you're going through, there IS hope.
I want to encourage you to check out this website - it has a really helpful article on depression and suicide. You can find it at http://www.christianwomentoday.com/chat/Suicidehelp.html#why
I don't really know how to tell you to get over it - but I can tell you about the hope that I have found in my life, and that is in Jesus Christ. I know you are probably feeling so empty right now and as though there is nothing in the world left to live for. But there is a God who loves you. No matter what you have done in your life, no matter what you will do, he loves you and wants to have a relationship with you. And if you just believe in him, he promises to meet ALL of your needs, to give you purpose in your life, and to love you unconditionally. I can only tell you this because I have experienced it myself and know Jesus to be SO real to me and to others. He wants to heal you and give you a reason to keep on living. Even if you're not sure you believe....or that you even WANT to believe, why not just speak to God as if he's right there beside you....tell him that you're sad...tell him that you feel you can't live anymore...your burdens are too heavy...you need help. Even if it seems like no one is listening, he hears.
One of my favorite bible verses is in Matthew 11 and it says this...
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
I am saying a prayer for you right now, and I sincerely hope that you find the courage to go on and that you find the love and the purpose that you are searching for. God Bless...
