It all depends on your fitness level. If you've never worked out before and you start doing power yoga (like Bikram yoga) about 4 times a week, you will lose weight. However, if you're very active and start substituting a cardio workout for yoga, you won't.
I live an active lifestyle and would do cardio 6 days a week and when I switched two of my cardio days to doing yoga, I started to gain weight.

yoga can help you with flexibility and relaxation it can lower your blood pressure and yes it can burn some calories but if used as the only exercise in a weight loss plan it will probably not be affective you also need some sort of cardio to go with it but it will help improve muscle tone and firmness once you start with the cardio

Yes, some of the various "Hot forms" certainly can help you raise you metabolism and burn calories. I use it to help me limber up before working out and to relieve stress after a hard workout, which to some extent keeps me out of the "Cookie jar".
