I have a straightener that claims to straighten wet hair without damaging it, but i'm not so sure. Can anyone tell me if it's ok for my hair or not?

Well, wait until it's damp. Make sure that whenever you want to straighten your hair, you get protective spray for your hair. It helps your hair from getting damaged! And that's what I do.

If you want to get a heads start, you can buy Clairol Herbal Essences shampoo and conditionar called "Dangerously Straight" and their spray called "None Of Your Frizzness" so your hair won't become frizzy or anything. Or you can pick another category from Herbal Essencess there is more then one choice. One enhances volume to your hair .. etc.
I hope I've been a great help!

My straightener says the same thing. But, I really try to avoid ironing my hair when it's wet. If you do it, you know that steam quite possibly comes out of your hair when you are ironing while wet. The iron when so hot drains all the moisture, nutrients and vitamins from your hair. It can take a toll out on your hair after doing it so much. I'd avoid it. Just let your hair dry & iron it, you'll appreciate it later.

It is not healthy to straighten your hair or even style your hair when it is wet. Wet hair is more vulnerable to heat when it is pulled and getting styled. That said, you will see that those style while their hair is wet, get frizzier and damaged hair.

If you think about it, the water in your hair is significantly cooler than the extreme heat of your straightener, and contact could cause the ceramic to literally explode and shatter. like if you take a frozen glass and pour hot water on it, or a hot casserole dish and put it on a cold surface, the contact areas expand in heat or contract in cold, and cause it to shatter. I would dry my hair first, or slightly damp.
