like i said in the ? i have a 17 week old great dane and i wanted to get a cat or a kitten so that he can have a friend to play with

Since your dane is only 17 wks, you should not have a problem. Just don't play and tell your dane to "get 'em". I have a 4 yr old dane, and just got a kitten a few months ago. They love each other, even though my dane would eat a cat if she caught one in our yard. Just teach your dane boundaries. I keep thinking if my dane hurts the cat it wouldn't be on purpose. I don't think she realizes how strong she is!

It all depends on the personality of your dog. Age also has a lot to do with how well your pet interacts with such a small compaion. Most dogs have a tendicy to get along well with cats if they were around cats when they were small puppys. But thats not true with all dogs. Nor will all cats take to such a large dog. The only way to realy find out if your Great Dane will do well with a kitty compaion is to try it in closed enviorment. Bring your dog (on a leash) to a cat that you know gets along well with dogs, if your dog is calm and dosent try to chase the cat, let him off the leash, if he dosent play rough with the cat he might do well with a feline friend.
Im the owner of a Great Dane and two cats. My dog is very gentle and gets along wonderfully with one of my cats.

kitten are a great snack for Great Danes, just make sure you remove the whiskers before serving (just joking).
You might have problems with a grown cat if it isn't used to dogs, I think you are better off with a kitten but I would advise that you wait a while until you bring in something new into the house

In general Great Danes are one of the most docile breeds of dogs. I cant imagine they would have any trouble with cats! Have fun.
