I don't know about the Bero book.
The ratios of weights of FLOUR : BUTTER : SUGAR
=3:2:1
Economical recipes use
4:2:1
Personally, if I'm putting my time into something, I'm not prepared to compromise on ingredients. I'd rather have 12 delicious biscuits than 16 rough ones.
Another point - if you're using one of those press things (mine's called Sawa) they work better with the 3:2:1 recipe
An example of the ratios above is 6 oz flour, 4oz butter, 2 oz sugar

I use 2 parts (by weight) of flour to 1 of sugar and 1 of fat. It's all down to personal taste. My wife prefers equal amounts. Experiment till you find a mix you like.
