A few days ago during lunch I had a sudden pain in my jaw/neck. There was swelling. When I stopped eating it went away. Everytime I eat this happens. Always clears up after I stop. Prett much figured out this was a salivary gland infection. I started taking amoxicilin. Doesn't seem to have helped much. What can I do and is there some kind of relief for the pain while eating meanwhile?

You probably have a small blockage in your saliva glands (much like a kidney stone). When you eat, saliva production increases, and the blockage creates pain in the glands.

Hopefully you went to a doctor to get antibiotics & didn't just use some you had around the house. I had a salivary gland infection once several years ago, & it was very painful. My doctor put me on antibiotics & the swelling & pain went away after only a day, but you have to continue taking the antibiotic for as long as your doctor prescribed or else the infection won't completely go away. If you're taking amoxicillin you had at home & the infection isn't going away, you need to go see a doctor, because you could be using the wrong type of antibiotic - it can sometimes be dangerous to self-prescribe medication, especially antibiotics. Get professional advice from a doctor, & you should start feeling better within the first 24 hours. As far as using something for the pain, you should also ask your doctor what pain reliever is safe to use with the antibiotics he/she prescribes you.

Yep flow back to the scientific expert. you will have a the tooth an infection inflicting the swollen glands below your chin. Do you have sensitivity on your tooth everywhere? Or once you consume warm/chilly, candy/bitter ingredients? this could be one element to think approximately if it would not flow away quickly.

If you know which gland it is, put some oragel on it for pain and take ibuprofen until you can get to the doctor.
