Very simple one to answer. The person attempting a U-turn must make sure the way is clear before starting their turn. If they are hit, it is their fault.

Assuming there was sufficient light outside, I would say your friend would be at fault.
If not, did you both have your lights on ? if he didn't, then he can be fully at fault, if you didn't ? then you may have to except some of the blame also, ''BUT THINK ABOUT IT ?'' Did you two involve the police in the matter ? If not, the best thing to do is both of you guys find a shop or someone who can repair the damage cheaply and both of you split the bill in half, this way neither of you get a accident against your insurance policies and the insurance companies don't raise both of your rates.
this way both of you can still remain friends, at least you didn't suffer any damage to your car but it could have been worst.
Ask your friend what he thinks of this answer....

The guy making the u-turn even if it was a legal turn. He has an obligation to make sure it is a safe to do so and to yield the right of way. If the police were called and did a report the report should list who is at fault.

U-turns are illigle in some areas of the road but I think you were on a back street where U-turns are ok? You had the "right of way" becuase you were driving striaght but, I would agree with others responding to your question about sharing the cost to remain friends. Some friendships are priceless! Just wish I had one :(

You are both at fault. Did he cross a solid white or yellow line when making the u-turn, did he have his signal indicators on? Yo didn't say. You are at fault for driving too closelu=y, too fast or a combination of both. Hope you were not drinking!!!

It was night. He made a u-turn in front of you. You were already driving, he wasn't. He's at fault. He should have waited for you to pass.

You and your friend hit each other. I'm thinking you both should have got DUI's
I think you both should share the cost of repairs just to remain friends.
