Polyuria and Polydipsia [increased drinking and urination] can be signs of many things. Renal/kidney problems, diabetes, liver malfunction ... most sure way to know for sure is get to your vet and have them pull a complete blood panel. This will show you internal organ functions and blood counts, checking for a myriad of things.

The incontinence could be a symptom of a bigger problem, such as mentioned above, or could simply be old age. There are several medications now for incontinence, which work very well. Again, this is a trip to your vet and have them check your pup out.

At your dogs age, I would recommend twice yearly check ups to your vet and bloodwork at their recommendation. Often major problems can be thwarted with simple monitoring and catching it early.

Best of luck to you.

Please DO NOT listen to people who do not know what they are talking about (see 1st above)

Please DO take him to a vet. He may have other problems, but simple incontinence is a side effect of aging and medicines are available to treat, just as there are for humans.

I went through this with my Shelite (14 y.o) and everything is fine, no Diabetes, no Kidney Disease, just simple incontinence and the medicines fixed the problem, along with a more attentive "going outside schedule".

TAKE HIM TO A VET.

Sound like diabetes! As a former RN. that specialized in endocrinology I recommend you take the dog to the vet for testing.

This is either diabetes or kidney disease. Only a vet can advise you here.

Unfortunately, no. That is very very old for a German Shepherd.

Have you told your vet about it? It sounds like he may have diabetes. Please get him checked.
