Dari is spoken in Afghanistan. It is a sort of mixture of Farsi and Pushto. Pushto is spoken in the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan. I am Pakistani.

Dari (similar to Iranian "Farsi') is the majority language spoken by 60 % of the Afghan population in Kabul and the north & eastern parts of the country. Pustho is spoken by people located in the south and west of the country and in Pakistan and pockets of India.
Intuitively, Dari would seem more useful unless your interests lay in the south eastern part of the country.

Dari. Many Pashto speakers also speak Dari, so I think it would be more useful. You will also be able to communicate with people from Iran and Tajikistan.

There are also way more resources for learning Dari/Persian. It is much more difficult to learn Pashto abroad, unless you have a Pashto-speaking friend who can teach you.
