Alcohol is a depressant - as in amplifies your sorrows.
So there is not one that is good for drinking your sorrows away. You may be able to drink yourself into a stupor so that you don't remember who you are or why you are sad, but that just makes for a really bad day, which can lead to a really bad week, which can lead to a really bad year . . . . .
Some one mentioned enorphins in an earlier answer. They are the best "drug" you can do. They are released from your body after you exercise.
So you can choose 1 of 2 cycles described above.
In the first cycle you are sad, you drink, you forget you are sad. The next day you are sad, your tolerance is higher, so you drink more, you almost forget your sad. Three months later you are an alcoholic that hates life and doesn't even remember why you started drinking in the first place.
In the second cycle you are sad, you exercise, you know you are sad but you feel good. The next day you are a little less sad, you exercise, you feel even better. Three months later you enjoy exercising so much the world is a new place and you forget why you could have ever been sad.

I don't know about the best one, but I can certainly tell you what to avoid - wine always makes me really emotional, and champagne will give you a buzz but you'll wake up at 4am the next morning.
Anyway - why the need to drink your sorrows away? Much better to surround yourself with your friends (although that might involve alcohol), go see a great film or go get some endorphins from going for a run or something. Or even just smile.

Any. Once the alcohole starts to pickle your brain, then it's all the same. I would choose one that I like... something sweet to start me off, since it wouldn't be pickled yet, then after the first drink or two, it's all the same.
Then it's how FAST you want to be pickled, the higher alcohol content, the faster you get sloshed. If you just want to get a buzz and keep thinking and feeling bad, then pick something with a lower alcohol content.
Do you want to like what you drink? Yes, it's my opinion, but obviously, it's you who will be doing the drinking and your lips it will be passing. These are my considerations, but it's your decision. Good luck. And Have a good Turkey day.

When I feel really bad, I usually go for hard liquor, with that special "medicine" taste... meaning It's usually Jack Daniels, bourbon (I suspect most American whiskies would fit my bill), or tequila/mezcal.
When the blues is lighter, and I just want a feel better, I usually go for sweeter stuff, like port wine.

Vodka or anything that's as light in colour as vodka. Thtey have less tannins so you won't get as bad a hangover the next day but they are still incredibly potent.

I'd have to say Bourbon is my choice of booze! Wild Turkey, or Maker's Mark whiskey. Both are a very good bourbon, but expensive! If your short of money just buy a pint of it, that's what I usually do. Happy drinkin'!
