I have been to many many chiropractors and unfortunately had some that really screwed me up. I had one dislocate three of my ribs and they are still dislocated. They'll never go back. I went to a physical therapist after that, and even though it does take longer, I don't have the back pain like I did. I used to be fine for a few months and then have to go back to the chiropractor for a few months and on and on. After 6 months with physical therapy I've been good for 5 years. If my back starts hurting I just start doing the exercises that they taught me and I'll be ok again. Some chiropractors are wonderful and do a great job, but physical therapy worked much better for me. If you can't decide between them, try both.

As a physical therapist I'm biased so I'm sure you can guess my answer. Before I became one I had major pain and difficulty walking due to my sacroiliac joint (where the hips and spine meet.) I went 3 times a week for 2 months to a chiropractor and I became much worse. I then went to a PT and she told me I had one leg shorter than the other, gave me a shoe insert, and in a matter of a couple hours I was completely pain free. The chiro was completely against me stretching or exercising on my own. I would not recommend any professional who tells his/her patients not to stretch or perform beneficial exercises. My beef with that is, say you have something out of alignment in your back. You go to the chiro for adjusting. Well, if your muscles are extremely tight, it's just going to pull things right back out of place, hence, having to go back over and over to the chiro to get it readjusted. In PT you should be taught how to help yourself heal. In school we were taught, "You are teachers, not treaters."
Good luck to you, low back pain is certainly a bothersome nuisance.

solve this delima by drinking more water and walking ----- either doctor can get paid for no results ( consider the Question perameters age sex weight ) YOU can help yourself with exercise and diet ...... until you do these two things.... on your own ...... any doctor cannot cure your back pain
