N.B. as a British Citizen living in Germany, British passports are issued by Post from Düsseldorfafter sending in Photo and a form signed by a doctor, Solictor etc who you have know for more than 5 years proving your identity with their signature. And with fingerprints?

As a British citizen who lived abroad, the addition of finger prints to your passport will make no difference, as you had to come back to the UK to renew it anyway. If you live 300 miles away, then you have to travel 300 miles!

You will probably have to go to a police station and have your prints taken together with verification of your ID.
This will then be sent to your embassy in Düsseldorf.
This is how most countries do it.
