Why doesnt everyone stop the madness and just admit they dont like it and stay home. Wouldnt we all be much happier?

It's funny, but many folks just feel they have to get up and go just to have a destination. Then, when they get to where they're going, it's all a big disappointment.

I have admitted it. I'm not happier, but I wouldn't be happy spending it with relatives, either. So at least I am taking charge of my life. I offered to work for 5 hours today.

I agree with you, though. Most people are ants who do things "just because they're supposed to and that's what everybody else does."

I think my family doesn't like it that I shun them, but they're probably jealous that I have the balls to say that family get-togethers suck.

I agree
I have no choice this year- I would rather stay home than spend the day with my unusual family
but...
Dad broke his hip 6 weeks ago- Mom never learned to drive so if I don't take them to the relatives for dinner today they would have to stay home and would be very unhappy

I am sacrificing my own happiness/sanity today so parent s can in turn be happy

Because then Grandma would be upset and that is much worse.

family gatherings is ok sometimes, but alot of people do hate it.
