One of our birds was a rescue and 4 years old when we bought him.

The question (as I think I'm understanding it) is should you purchase a 4-5 month old cockatiel? The answer is yes. Go for it. He/She is still a baby. If you were to ask me about a 4-5 YEAR old cockatiel, my answer would be the same except that you'd have to train out the bad habits. At 4-5 Months old, there really shouldn't be many bad habits to train out.

Good luck! If you need more help when you get him/her home, I'll be happy to help you with any questions you have at that point! Have you picked out a name?

I got my cockatiel when he was seven months and he is the sweetest thing ever. Under a year your cockatiel is still a baby, and will attach to you just as easily as a 10 week old would.

At this age the bird is just becoming an adult. It is moulting out its chick plumage for its adult feathers and is ready to start looking for a mate. At this age they are quite easy to tame, so don't be put off by other people telling you that you should get one at 6 to 8 weeks and no older.

What is your question? Are you asking if its ok to get a bird for a 5 month old child? Your question is pretty vague.
