Early propellors were Mahogany or Walnut. Hartzell, the US propellor makers, were also a walnut lumber company. Spruce was also frequently used, but virtually all woods have been used and are still in use. Around 1915 the wood of choice became Oak and sometimes Oak over a Spruce core. Oak is stronger than Walnut and Mahogany.
