Don't you hate it when someone claims they know and understand something yet they haven't even read or study'd what you have. Ex. Christians constantly tell me Richard Dawkins is an Idiot..yet have never read one of his books. Im sure it goes the same way for some Christians who talk to Atheists who have never read the bible. Me personally I have read the bible countless times and understand it fully...thats why I don't believe. But don't we all agree that we should at least really attempt to see the other side of the story before we argue?

When I was younger I was really religious, I read the bible twice when i was 14 years old. Then as a few years passed I did the typical Go to church and read selective passages...then I went to become a minister...which I accomplised yet turned my back on. So yes I have read the bible...I didn't not believe it the first time but as my knowledge of science increased and my knowledge of other things advanced I realized the bible is no different then the writings of Greek mythology.

Yes. And doing that was precisely what made me change my worldview.

Subconsciously, people feel that fear that knowledge may change their minds. That is why it's hard for them to objectively look at the other side.

But no matter how scary it may be, the truth is not afraid of scrutiny. Period.

Gladiator... come now, surely you can answer that yourself. True or not, the Bible is a complicated and involved book that requires some amount of study.

Even if it wasn't, who are you to say that if I don't believe it, I can't enjoy reading it? That's like saying if I don't believe that Hobbits exist, I can't read the Lord of the Rings more than once. Think, please.

No such ingredient. An atheist believes in NO god/desses. that could comprise Allah,Ganesh, Kali, Isis, Thor, Gaia, Danu, and so forth...maximum English talking shoppers are at here and are raised Christian, yet i'd say my morals & ideals are from a mixture of empathy & society. i'm professional-selection, and so are many Xians and that i'm additionally vegetarian. The Bible is amazingly contradictory. That total 'now not killing' ingredient? quite some Xians do now not look to have a challenge with production unit farms, the loss of life penalty or going to conflict. And in case you examine the OT, you do now not ought to flow far to examine some tale the place the 'chosen ones' are commanded to kill. There are over 30,000 Xian denom's available...there's a reason.

You obviously do not UNDERSTAND the Bible or you would believe. Read ACTS chapter 8.

That is exactly what drives me nuts here. You can read the bible til your eyes fall out of your head, but someone will ALWAYS tell you - you didn't understand what you read. Like we're all mentally challenged, simply because we did read it and find it ridiculous. I have seen the other side of the argument. I find it lacking. Thus, I don't believe in it. Just because a book tells you it's true doesn't make it so.

Your right people tend to think that whatever they believe is automatically the right true and only way without even hearing the other person's point of view... And yes some people claim to understand the Bible for example but are still as confused about it as is the person that they are trying to talk to... That is human and no everyone shouldn't be that way but who are we to try to change the world?... I am a christian and i believe in the Word of God, that is the right way, and the only way... No i have not read the entire Bible from front to back, but i know alot, i can always learn more you can never be knowledgeable enough about the Bible, that is why when i am asked something if i don't know the answer fully i will study before i answer anything... You shouldn't not believe just because you have ran into some bad apples, there are plenty of people out there who will fully listen before they talk and they will talk with a way of understanding instead of trying to bash things into your head... There is a God in heaven, and there will be a judgment day. and we will all answer to God for our works... That will be a sad day for many...But a glorious day for more..

many of us HAVE been on both sides of the fence. I do not jump to the other side because it is greener but where the Truth is.
When I read the Bible the first time, my eyes weren't completely open to the Truth. After I acknowledged the Holy Spirit into my life, I was able to understand the Bible much better. This is why you are unable to believe.
I usually study up before I make conclusions on issues. I am not perfect in any way but I will try to make an attempt to know and base it on what God relays in the Bible. If it won't agree, I will not back it.

I didn't become an atheist after reading the Bible. I read the Bible and stopped believing in Bible-God. After reading the Baghavad Gita, the Tao Te Ching, some philosophy books and Buddhist books I decided that a god was non-existent and if not non-existent then unnecessary.

From the brazen serpent Moses raised to save Israel from the fiery serpents to the prophecies of David in Palms 22 Thur the prophecies of Isaiah. The Old Testament is filled with types and prophecies of Jesus.. If you don't see them I can't show them to you and make you understand. You know that the scripture is spiritually discerned.. I don't hold you evil speech against you I know it's because you are filled with hate toward God and His people.... Jim

In my opinion Richard Dawkins is not an idiot. He is an educated person who hates God and has contempt for all who believe in Him.
