Yes you can...you need to use the 4 second rule; that is to pick a stationary object at the side of the road and when the car you are following passes it you count one-one thousand, two one thousand and so on until you are at a 4 second distance from the vehicle you are following. This will give you enough time to avoid a collision if something was to happen. Following to close to another vehicle is just asking for trouble and if you are observed doing this by law enforcement they can pull you over and ticket you for this infraction.

Following too closely is not very bright. I usually don't pay them any mind when they are too close to me as it is their problem. As the other poster pointed out slamming on brakes is just as stupid if not more so,not a very bright person either, more of the road rage thing. He is most likely one of those who drives in the far left lane backing up traffic, thinking he is the traffic police. It is however a traffic offense here in Va also.

Yes. It is reckless driving. You should stay 1 car length behind a car for every 10 mph you travel. Few do.

Yes, it's called tail-gating. It's very dangerous, if the vehicle in front brakes, you'll be in an accident.

yes you can, tailgating is dangerous because if something happens you won't have time to stop your car before running into the car in front of you.

It's called tailgating and when people do it to me, I slam on the brakes! The people who tailgate should have thier licenses taken away for ever!
