Engineering hasn't been a life long dream or anything, but I have a feeling that it's something I want a career in. Like I said, I don't have a 4.0 GPA or anything, I get pretty good grades. I'm like an average student I guess, school matters but so does fun and friends. Will I still be able to make it? Or should I save myself the trouble and decide on another career now, while I still have the option?

You can do anything you set your mind to, if people discourage you consider it a challenge to prove them wrong. There is a serious lack of Quality engineers. There is plenty of time for your choice, many very successful people do not find their calling until they have experienced a number of choices. The main thing is to believe in yourself and perhaps you should try writing down your goals, and each year go back and review them; you will be surprised at how far you can go, and how things can change in this technical age. Best Of Luck!

i think it's great that you have this drive. and the good news is, you can find out now if it's really for you, and it's free. go to your guidance counselor and tell him/her what you just told us. you can then take engineering-type courses over the rest of your high school time, like calculus and physics, and see if you like it.

looking back on it now, i can see that high school is a great gift - you can explore all different ways of being in the world and different tracks to follow into the money-making world, and it's free!

your guidance counselor can also help with your GPA. if you were a grown-up, you'd have to pay someone to give you career testing and self-improvement help, but, once again, you have access to all that for free. (well, free to you - all the taxpayers in your community are paying for it, to give you a brighter future)

*hugs* and good luck. i have a feeling you'll do great!

Consider going to technical school, like ITT Tech or Devry any school accredited..
my friend is getting his Bachelors in Computer Science next year and he started going about 3 years ago. You don't have to take all the nonsense courses they make you take in a regular college just the ones that you really need for a good job and it cost about the same too.

I work with a lot of engineers, and trust me, a lot of them are not that bright. I think you would be doing yourself a great service by pursuing this career choice. These guys can make upwards of $100,000 a year or more. Can you make that much flippin burgers at the golden arches? I think not.

Of course you can still make it! I had a 3.8 one semester, my lowest ever....and I still got into medical school! So, of course, you can do it. Never give up, atleast put up a fight for it. If you don't make it to one, there are plenty of other schools. Just apply to more than one, you for sure will get in to one.
