The Gospels are not re-writes of Luke. Luke even starts his Gospel, "Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses..." (Luke 1:1). Why would he claim eyewitnesses have already written narratives if Luke was, in fact, the first one to do so? Doesn't that seem illogical to you? And the fact that Luke didn't meet Jesus is, in a way, beneficial because he provides an investigative report - he certainly went around asking people what happened and thus Luke acts as a historian. Regardless, if you accept the argument that the disciples copied Luke, they still wouldn't have read Luke and said, "Oh, he says Moses and Elijah appeared to us in the clouds...... I don't remember that, but since this Luke guy says it, I'll write it anyway in my Gospel"..... Does that sound logical to you?

It's because 'the man' doesn't want us to know what's in the Gnostic Gospels. That's where the truth is. . .and they don't want us to have it! The Catholic Church is a huge conspiracy against man and society.

~I don't personally believe this, but was involved in a conversation recently that pertains very closely to your question and the people arguing for the Gnostic gospels were using the above as their argument!~

i'm unsure who you're touching directly to, yet i'm a Christian Gnostic. I evaluate the two the Gnostic Gospels and the present testomony to be sturdy spiritually. that does no longer mean that i think of of they the two are literal. fantasy isn't what human beings look to think of of. fantasy is a tale that conveys religious certainty. this isn't any longer superstition. The Gnostic Gospels are heavily fantasy crammed as is the Bible. this is finished of certainty - religious certainty - no longer literal. i make the main the two the gnostic gospels and the present testomony in my examine as the two are clever. If it wasn't for the council of nicea all Christians may be analyzing a plenty extra effective group of books.

I'm not sure who you are referring to, but I am a Christian Gnostic. I consider both the Gnostic Gospels and the New Testament to be reliable spiritually. That doesn't mean that I think they either are literal. Myth is not what people seem to think. Myth is a story that conveys spiritual truth. It is not superstition. The Gnostic Gospels are heavily myth filled as is the Bible. It is full of truth - Spiritual truth - not literal. I use both the gnostic gospels and the new testament in my studies as both are useful. If it wasn't for the council of nicea all Christians would be studying a much larger group of books.

I accept the Gospels and I recognize the gnostics as a group of people who said they had the truth and they were above religion and religion wasfor the masses who did not know the truth. I reject the gnostic beliefs.

People are in search mode. They are tired of the "norm" and want to experience things that are not quite commonplace. The bible has been the indesputable word of God for quite awhile now and for many centuries could not even be questioned. But with the free exchange of ideas, the lack of religious persecution, and the indomitable curiosity of the human mind, people are veering off into other, less known fields of thought and spirituality.
Another factor is that Christianity has been flooded with people who don't truly believe in the Bible. Oh they SAY they do, but their actions tell another story, and their hypocricy has turned many away from Christianity.

Perhaps cos the gnostic gospels aren't plagarisms of Luke.

Luke never met Jesus.

It does seem that way, doesn't it? I suspect they don't believe the Gnostics any more than they believe the NT, but they provide convenient ammunition to attack something they don't WANT to believe in.

Because they want to cast doubt onto any orthodox christian doctrine of moral ethic.
