Of course, iTunes is the service that Apple is going to want you to use. I don't have an iPod, so I can't really speak to their draconian DRM issues.

There are other sources of content for iPods though. For example, My-Ipod-Downloads...

Feed-My-iPod...

Your-Ipod-Movies...

I'm sure there are others as well. And you're downloading standard MP3 files that reside on your Hard Drive with these services, so you're free to copy them and do with them as you wish. You avoid the DRM issues associated with iTunes.

Good luck!

I would like to explain a few things because I believe there is a little confusion here.

.mp3 (audio) format is an extension of a file.

Example: Myfavoritesong.mp3

You could also have a .wav .mp4 .wmv, etc.

I would use caution on Limewire. I use the p2p (peer-to-peer) software, but it does have a lot of viruses on the site. I use Limewire on a Mac but do not trust anything for my PC.

If you are looking for free downloads, Limewire is it! Just read the information of each file prior to download.

Once you download the song, it will be stored on your computer where Limewire is storing songs, video, documents, etc. (Check the Limewire Preferences). Limewire stores the files in this folder, but you will still have put the songs in iTunes.

Once the song is in the iTunes software, you can put it into your iPod.

Hint: I create a folder in iTunes called "Limewire" and set the preferences to store all audio files in this folder.
