installing service pack 2 on pirated versions of xp is a bit of a hit,n,miss thing,as in my experience some sp2 will install and some wont ,its while the sp2 installer does its inventory that it finds out wether you have a pirated version,so you could try another copy and it may work
personally windows xp is so cheap now ,that i dont take any chances, and also with the legal version you get all updates, downloads, ect
go to http://www.misco.co.uk/productinformation/~Q75714~WW~/MICROSOFT%20OEM%20Microsoft%20Windows%20XP%20Home%20Edition%20Ed.htm,and there is a copy of windows xp home(with sp2) for less than £50
much less bother!

There are all kinds of ways. The only problem is that if you think Microsoft is brain dead you are kidding yourself. Their products are garbage, but the their "WGA", tool that is used to validate your key for Windows is genuine. Microsoft to give you just an example, if you try an even update WMP, or IE7 the tool will check atleast four times during the download and installition to make sure that your platform is genuine.

Plus when they do find out that it is pirated, they have the option to actually shut you down 100%.

If you are smart you should look for an OEM, company and purchase a every small item. Then the OEM company will sell you valid Windows XP Home or Pro. at around $100.00 or less depending on what country you reside.

An if you do purchase stay there and have their tech., install the platform and also ask them to install some critical updates. As you want to see the "WGA" validate your key.

There are alot of techs., that will open a new Microsoft platform an install into a family members pc or a friend. And then they bring the CD, back to the shop and reseal the plastic with equipment that performs this function. And the person who purchases what they think is a new CD, will find out after the fact that the key has been used.

Naughty, Naughty ,, yes, go out and buy the real thing, Microsoft windows XP then you will be able to download service pack 2 free, after all you are missing out on all future updates and are leaving yourself wide open to virus and admail attacks which will in time steel information from your computer without you ever knowing, for example your Identity could be stolen and used,
At the end of the day there is no such thing as a free lunch, so be warned
Oh nearly forgot to say Microsoft windows has a new operating system called "Vista" and is launched early January so it might be worth waiting until then and buy a new PC with this and services pack 2 already installed.

If you have a pirated versiona nd do not want to buy a genuine version of XP then search the net for pirated product keys, or use the one a friend with a leitimate copy has.

There is some software on the net that allows you to change your winXP key; it sometimes comes with a key generator that helps you generate genuine keys that are compatible with the SP2 installer.
Look for that on the net and good luck.
Some people wouldn't like that because if you buy a genuine copy of WinXP then they will be able to get a salary.

If you're trying to download it - it will knock you back.

If you get it on a CD, it wont.

Naughty versions of XP? tsk tsk.
