we have two tom kittens aged 11wks,they have always been full of fun and very loving, unfortunately my son aged 6 was playing with them and seems to have frightened one of them now joe,the kitten at times can be nervous and wary of anyone giving him attention, and this is not a situation which we want as he was such a character.

Give Joe time to regroup. He needs to regain his kitty confidence. He probably was hurt, like a mom kitty would do to reprimand her offspring. I don't mean injured. Try to keep your son away temporarily. Let Joe work his own way back. Good luck

Only the Lord knows what your son has done to this kitten. Joe has a fear of children, and really dont TRUST anybody. In order to gain Joes trust, you need to show him more effection, and of course the other kitty. Dont allow your son to bother Joe. Joe seems to know, who he can and cant trust.
